Community Outreach
Since our inception in 2001, we have had monthly open mic meetings focusing on acoustic guitar performance. While our open mic performances are free to the public, we realize there remain many members of our community that do not have the opportunity to enjoy live guitar music. Our mission and vision focus on providing access to acoustic guitar music to residents of southern Oregon that would not otherwise have an opportunity to hear this beautiful, intimate music.
We are sensitive to the pandemic of loneliness and isolation described by the U.S. Surgeon General, and we believe that acoustic guitar music is uniquely universal its appeal and beauty, cutting across socioeconomic and cultural boundaries. We are therefore actively focusing on groups that may be isolated or disconnected from the healing power of music due to their age or disability, socioeconomic status, or rural environment.
GSSO provides free “mini concerts” throughout southern Oregon as part of our outreach activities, including libraries, senior centers and community centers.
