ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Matt Dorris announced that the guitar society’s name has now officially been changed to Guitar Society of Southern Oregon. This was a change that was proposed way back in 2015 and has finally been accomplished (thanks primarily to treasurer Jennifer Babineaux) to reflect our more inclusive musical tastes within the society, as well as to clarify the region we serve.
We also have a new website to go with the new name! Please check out guitarsocietyso.org. (The old URL of jeffersonguitars.org now redirects to the new website.) This is an updated website that more accurately reflects the structure and activity our our society, which will turn 21 in October. Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming celebration. Emails such as these are still being sent from the old JCGS Gmail account, but this will change over time as well.
Matt Ross’ sister, Noni White, has the following message regarding Matt’s memorial over Zoom tomorrow, June 14. Please RSVP to noniwhite11@icloud.com or call her at the number below:

“Matt passed away peacefully on 3/24/22 at Celia’s House Friends of Hospice. So wanted whatever time Matt had left to be spend in a loving, beautiful and peaceful place. On June 14th @ 5pm pst we’ll have a Zoom Memorial for Matt. 6/14 would have been his 81st birthday. If you would like to speak, please let me know. I’m hoping 2-4 mins., will allow everyone who wants to share a remembrance or story about Matt, say a word or two or not say anything at all. Your attendance would mean the world to me and to Matt.
Any questions or anyone you think I’ve left out, pls email me or call me: (323) 804-0203
Love, Noni”

Monthly Meeting Recap – May 2022

Dear guitar fans,

We had a lovely evening of local guitar music and a stunning performance by the Folias Duo.

There were 24 people were in attendance, a lower showing than usual. We passed the hat for the duo but frankly came up shorter than usual as well. Whether you attended last night or not, please consider making an additional donation to the Duo for their amazing work via the guitar society’s PayPal account, and we will send then the money. You can go to PayPal.me/jeffersoncgs and select the “Send” option. Be sure to look for the option to send “as a friend” to avoid unnecessary finance charges, and you can add a memo saying the donation is for the duo. You can also visit their website (foliasmusic.com) to sample and buy their albums, including their latest, Delicate Omens. Thank you for your consideration!

As a reminder, especially for those who didn’t get to see the Folias Duo last night, they will perform this morning from 10am to 11:30am at La Baguette Music Cafe in Ashland.
